"Anything But Normal" Book Review

Anything But Normal
by
Melody Carlson

MY REVIEW:
The secret that Sophie is keeping isn't hard to figure out, and sadly enough it is a common problem (much more common than it should be) so it is probably good that there are some books out there that deal with it. I would say this is an older YA book (16-20) and my daughter won't be reading it yet, but the time may come. I think Melody does a great job getting into the head of a high school senior that is going through some major issues. I think she shows the guilt, humiliation and denial really well and then when the truth finally starts coming out I thought the consequences were handled well too. There is a lot of realism in this book. But it is a pretty heavy book so if teen pregnancy is an issue in your circle of friends, I would definitely recommend this book.

Sophie is starting a new school year. Shopping for it with her best friend should be fun, but nothing seems to fit, which is a major issue to a high school girl. But her biggest problem is the secret she's keeping. And she's about to find out that she won't be able to keep things under wraps for much longer. This page-turning novel explores the tangled web of choices, secrets, and love that all teen girls navigate. Melody Carlson enjoys a huge audience of teen readers. Now, Revell presents another new stunning story from an author who understands teen girls right where they are.

From the Back Cover

She thought she'd left the summer behind . . . This year should be the best of Sophie Ramsay's life. She's friends with all the right people, she's a shoo-in for editor of the school newspaper, and she's managed to turn the head of one of the hottest guys in school. But something's not quite right. Sophie has a secret--one she won't be able to keep under wraps for much longer. Melody Carlson is the award-winning author of more than two hundred books, including Just Another Girl, the Diary of a Teenage Girl series, the TrueColors series, and the Carter House Girls series.
