"Wicked" the Musical!

On Saturday Mom and I drove to Omaha to go see the Broadway touring production of "Wicked". The sad thing is that my Aunt Laurie bought us the tickets so we could go together and then she was so sick that she couldn't go (really sick), and we never would have gone if she hadn't initiated the whole event. Well, thank you Aunt Laurie! Mom and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed the show immensely! We're huge fans of Wizard of Oz and for those of you that don't know "Wicked" is about the wicked witch of the west and Glinda the good witch before the Wizard of Oz happens. How they met, loathed each other (cue song), and then became best friends and takes us all the way through the Wizard of Oz to showing us what happened after the credits rolled on the movie. The script is based on a novel, but oh my goodness, it is incredible clever and humorous with twists in it (some we saw coming, some we didn't). The songs are wonderful with "Popular" and "Defying Gravity" the 2 that really stuck with me. Our touring company included Katie Rose Clarke as Glinda and Donna Vivino as Elphaba. We didn't get to see Donna because her stand by played Elphaba for the matinee we were at, but like Mom said, "I can't imagine anyone being any better than she was!" As for Katie Rose Clarke, Kristin Chenowith (who I love) is hailed by many as the ultimate Glinda, but I watched some of her performances on YouTube and think that Katie was way better! I posted Glinda's big song "Popular" here, but I did a Katie version because that is who I saw as opposed to a Kristin version even though those are clearer. Anyway, next to Les Miserables I would say that "Wicked" is now one of my favorite musicals - and I've seen quite a few. So if you get the opportunity I would highly recommend this show!

I wholeheartedly agree! I love the way this musical incorporated twists and caused me to rethink my assumptions. The music stays with you -- I listen to it almost every time I clean house and I still don't get tired of it. I tried to read the book and found it incredibly disappointing. But I believe this will be one of my favorite musicals forever! I can't wait to see it again.

I saw this in Chicago a couple years ago - FABULOUS! My sister has a set of books that go along with this - I have yet to read them but she loves them. So glad you got to go see it!

The Wicked is one of my favourite musicals. I know all the words by heart so it was nice to remember again in your post. Thanks for bringing back some fond memories about the Wicked . This weekend I’m going to visit my sister and we get pretty good tickets to attend it again so I'll be analyzing as well as enjoying that show.
