"An Irishwoman's Tale" Book Review and Giveaway!

This week, the

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance

is introducing

An Irishwomans' Tale

Kregel Publications (July 8, 2008)

by

Patti Lacy

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Patti Lacy graduated from Baylor University in 1977 with a B.S. in education. She taught at Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, until she retired in 2006 to pursue writing full time. She has two grown children with her husband, Alan, and lives in Illinois.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Far away from her Irish home, Mary Freeman begins to adapt to life in Midwest America, but family turmoil and her own haunting memories threaten to ruin her future.

A shattered cup. Cheap tea. Bitter voices asking what's to be done with the "little eejit." Mary, an impetuous Irishwoman, won't face the haunting memories--until her daughter's crisis propels her back to County Clare. There, in a rocky cliffside home, Mary learns from former neighbors why God tore her from Ireland forty-five years earlier. As she begins to glimpse His sovereign plan, Mary is finally able to bury a dysfunctional past and begin to heal. Irish folk songs and sayings add color to the narrative.

If you would like to read the first chapter of , go HERE

Patti has taken women's fiction to an amazing place. This story takes us across an ocean, to a place that is painful to go, but a relief to reach. It brings us to a friendship sown of heartache and reaped in shared tears. I hurt for Mary as she would inch closer to opening up to her new friend Sally and then ached as she would share her past and open raw wounds. Patti has a unique tale to tell and a beautiful style with which to tell it. If you like women's fiction then this book is a much have for your personal library. She will transport you to places you wish you were (like Ireland) and take you back to places you wish you had never been (like being an unwanted, unloved child) and when you are done, you will take a deep breath and wish you had Sally's story to pick up and start reading so you wouldn't have to say good-bye to the characters you have just gotten to know.

If you would like a 2nd chance at winning this incredible book, then leave a comment with your email address telling me where you have traveled that you loved and you will get an entry into the drawing! Good luck!

Don't enter me, I already have it! I just wanted to say that I've been to Ireland (years ago) and I thought she did a wonderful job describing the land and the people there.

I haven't been to many places, but I did grow up in Colorado (for the most part), and that will always be "home" to me. I really enjoy going to Colorado for vacations... my favorite time so far was a time I went up there for our anniversary, to a romantic cabin (called "The Love Nest", and it was featured in Mademoiselle Magazine!), in Estes Park. A great get away for couples! :)

Please enter me, this sounds like a great book!

I haven't travelled outside of the U.S., but I love the mountains of Virginia and Tennessee! Such beauty and freedom!

This book looks wonderful! I took my kids to the Grand Canyon a couple years ago and would love to go back and hike to the bottom. The coast of Oregon is another beautiful spot I would enjoy visiting again. I do seem to gravitate towards Chicago for big city trip - I could spend days at the Art Institute.

Please enter my name in the drawing. Thanks!

Patti's book is at the top of my list to read, so thanks for an opportunity to win a copy.

My favorite place to travel is anywhere in New England, especially the coast from Maine to Nantucket. The week my daughter and I spent in Cape Cod will always be a highlight of my life.

I would SO love to have this book, and since I am flat broke these days, the only way to read it within a few months is to win it. SO please enter me!

I love nature, so there are quite a few places that are high on my list. I guess my favorite place would be the Smoky Mountains, all of the park. Especially at sunrise or sunset, when wispy clouds settle amidst the peaks, in the fall, in the spring, or anytime that flowers are blooming.

When I think of a special place that meant a great deal to me it has to be Moraine Lake, in the Rockies. This is close to Lake Louise in Alberta. I love that setting which is spectacular. This book sounds intriguing.

My favorite place that I have traveled is Belize. It was full of beauty from the jungles to the mountains, to the beaches and ocean. And my husband proposed to me there. :-)

My favorite trip would be to Washington DC. I went many years ago with friends and not only saw "all the regular sights" but a lot of spots only a resident would know, as we had our friend's brother as tour guide.

This book sounds awesome. I love to read anything based in Ireland, home of my ancestors.

I travelled to Montreal, Quebec and the Maritimes which was filled with history, beauty and was special. Thanks for this interview and feature.

Oops! forgot to add my favorite place that I've traveled. I have to say to the beautiful state of Mississippi...my Mother's birthplace. I have so many fond memories of all my Aunts, and the graciousness of people there. I haven't been there in a long while, and it makes me sad that all of my aunts, uncles and Mom have passed on, but what wonderful memories of all the fun times we had visiting and seeing the sites.
I am blessed!

Carol, we had a wonderful family vacation hiking around Mount Hood and enjoying the homey lodge at night. Sarah, I'd love to go to Scotland. The Irish, of course, say their country is better, but I'd like to check it out. Sandee, I used to go through Mississippi all the time when we lived in Louisiana and Alabama (subject of my second book, What the Bayou Saw.)
Blessings to all of y'all,
Patti

Ooooo! I really want to read "An Irishwoman's Tale." Please count me in for this drawing.
My husband and I were in Singapore for three months in 2005. While we were there, we took a long weekend on the wild island of Borneo and stayed in a tree house! One memorable experience was visiting the Orangutan rehabilitation center and watching a female and her baby from only ten feet away with no fence in between us!
