Halloween Comparison -2007 to 2008

It's Candy and Costumes and Pictures - Oh My!

I have a thing about Halloween. I've never been a big fan. As a child we didn't go trick or treating and dress up. It just wasn't something my parents wanted to promote and I wasn't a big advocate of ghosts, goblins and witches so I was okay with that. Of course, that was back before churches started doing Harvest Parties and Fall Festivals and stuff on October 31st so those things weren't an option.

Now my kids have come along and for all these years we never did anything either. Then we started going to the Harvest Parties at our church but sometimes I would miss those because I was at the
dance studio and my mom would take them. So we still didn't do the whole dress-up thing. Last year I knew I would get to go because Halloween fell on a Wednesday, so I decided if the kids were going to dress up, then we were going to do it right. So the kids and I settled on the theme of "Wizard of Oz" and this is what we ended up with...

It was a hit and it made me feel like I had accomplished something besides
buying costumes at Wal-mart (we hit the thrift stores and assembled those outfits ourselves). So this year we picked Toy Story 2 and went back to work. The biggest project for me was that Quinn was to be Little Bo Peep's lamb and so I crocheted him a sweater, hat and tail - that was a bigger project than I anticipated, especially for me who had never finished a crochet project in my life! This is how this year turned out...

The kids had a wonderful time this year and it is always a feeling of
accomplishment for me when someone looks at them and immediately guesses the theme.

Of course it is not exactly brain surgery to figure out that Dorothy, Scarecrow, Lion, Tin Man and the Great & Powerful Oz all together makes the Wizard of Oz. Or that Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep, her lamb, Jessie the Cowgirl and Mr. Potato Head all add up to Toy Story 2, but it is still satisfying :-)

I already have next year's theme picked out, but no cheating, you'll have to wait til next year to see what is up our sleeve :-)
