MY REVIEW:
I am halfway through this book and wanted to go ahead and give you my impressions so far. Lauraine Snelling has created quite a little world in Blessing, North Dakota with an impressive cast of characters and back stories. A Measure of Mercy is the first in a new series, but it is deeply rooted in her beloved characters from her other Blessing series. I am enjoying this book, but have not read the other Blessing books, though I have purchased them for my mother-in-law, and consequently I think I would be enjoying it even more if I had the whole back story on everyone. I am really intrigued by what I am reading so far, the era is great (early 1900's, phones are just getting installed and cars are VERY new), the people are wonderful (immigrants from Norway putting down deep roots in North Dakota) and then there is the main storyline (Astrid is trying to decide whether to take further surgical training for being a doctor, but it requires going to Chicago for 6 months and she really doesn't want to leave). So far, so good...

Lauraine and her husband, Wayne, have two grown sons, and live in the Tehachapi Mountains with a cockatiel named Bidley, and a watchdog Basset named Chewy. They love to travel, most especially in their forty-foot motor coach, which they affectionately deem “a work in progress”.

Believing Joshua no longer loves her, Astrid makes an impetuous, heart-wrenching decision.
